DURHAM, N.C. – Emma James broke a year-old school record in the 5000m Run by nearly 26 seconds, while fellow senior Olivia Jones posted a top-15 finish in the 3000m Steeplechase to highlight action for the Mercer track & field team on Friday evening at the Duke Invitational.

James led a parade of Bears that posted four of the program's five fastest times in the 5000m Run with Iris Porter, Chiara Belfico and Paula Sandoval also covering the 5K race in 17-1/2 minutes or less. Jones and junior Kamryn Wingfield both tallied personal-best times in the 3000m Steeplechase as well.

It was the second school record of the season for James who eclipsed the program superlative in the 1500m Run on March 28 at the Emory Thrills In The Hills.

Mercer is back in action again next weekend, April 17-18, when the entire squad makes the short trip to Atlanta to take part in the Georgia Tech Invitational.
