Mercer Makes Return Trip To North Carolina For Charlotte Invitational

MACON – The Mercer track & field team will head back to North Carolina this weekend when the when the sprinters, jumpers and hurdlers head to central North Carolina for the Charlotte Invitational. The two-day meet is slated to be held at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte's Irwin Belk Track & Field Center.

The Bears will open up their portion of meet competition on Friday afternoon (2:30 p.m.) in the Triple Jump. Mercer is scheduled to compete in eight events on Saturday beginning with the Long Jump at 11 a.m.

The Orange & Black saw some success last week at the Georgia Tech Invitational as sophomore Jayla Simmons registered a mark of 5.82 meters on the way to a fifth-place finish in the Long Jump, while Iris Porter crossed in fifth place with a time of 17:34.27 in the 5000m Run. Four Bears registered at least one personal-best mark in their respective disciplines in Atlanta, including sophomore Naomi Pierce who grabbed a new personal record in both the 200m Dash and the Long Jump.

Following this weekend's competition in Charlotte, Mercer will be back in action again, May 1-2, when the squad closes out the regular season portion of its 2026 slate at the North Florida-hosted East Coast Relays in Jacksonville, Fla.
