Bears Continue Road Trip At Georgia Southern

MACON – The Mercer men's soccer team is in the middle of a four-match stretch away from home and will travel to Statesboro, Georgia, to play in-state rival Georgia Southern this Sunday, September 13.

SERIES HISTORY
Since at least 2008, Mercer and Georgia Southern have faced each other almost every single year. The Bears have a 12-2-1 record against the Eagles over that stretch with a 6-0-1 record in Statesboro. Then ranked No. 18 Georgia Southern won last year's meeting, 3-0, at Betts Stadium.

LAST TIME OUT
Mercer fell to 0-4-2 this past Wednesday after losing to in-state foe Georgia State (5-0-1), 1-0, in Atlanta, Georgia. The Bears took 16 shots and fired nine shots on goal but were kept off the scoreboard. The Panthers' lone goal came off a rebound from a penalty shot in the 37th minute.

FAMILIAR FACES
Senior defender AJ Pama, a mainstay on Mercer's back line, spent the previous three seasons in Statesboro. Pama appeared in 50 matches and logged 2,751 minutes for the Eagles and ended his stint with Georgia Southern with two assists and contributed to 16 clean sheets.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Georgia Southern enters Sunday night's match undefeated in its last three contests. The Eagles defeated Jacksonville, 2-0, on Friday, August 28, before drawing with Liberty on Wednesday, September 2 and beating Stetson, 1-0, this past Tuesday. Georgia Southern posts a plus-three goal differential, and freshman forward Broden Beorlegui leads the Eagles with four goals. Nico Aristizabal and Luca Maxim have split time between the pipes with both keepers notching seven saves apiece to begin the season.
