Will Vaught joined the Mercer staff as an Assistant Director of Media Relations in August 2021.
Before arriving in Macon, he had a two-year stint with Vanderbilt University as a student assistant in the athletic media relations department. With the Commodores, he led communication efforts for men's tennis and was the secondary contact for lacrosse, soccer, swimming and women's tennis - all while working toward a Master's Degree in Sport Administration at Belmont University.
In the 2021 lacrosse season, he helped bring the program's social media presence to unprecedented heights - peaking second in growth rate (+3,477 / 39.6%), sixth in total interactions (240,572) and ninth in interaction rate - en route to their first berth in the NCAA Tournament since 2010.
He also aided in the efforts in promoting Sarah Fuller, the first woman to both play and score in a Power Five college football game.
Prior to Vanderbilt, he was the assistant sports information director at the Savannah College of Art and Design, where he aided in the promotion of the Bees' 18 teams. The year-long tenure included NAIA national championships for the women's bowling, women's swimming and women's lacrosse teams.
While an undergraduate student pursing an English degree at Armstrong State University in Savannah, Georgia, he worked as a student assistant in the athletic marketing and facility operations departments until its consolidation into Georgia Southern.
Vaught is a founding father of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon chapter at what-is-now GSU Armstrong and is an avid fan of the Jacksonville Jaguars, Orlando City Soccer Club and Washington Capitals.
