The Bears steal four bases in the 5-2 loss
AUBURN, Ala. – SIUE had Mercer's number on the softball diamond for the second time over a two-day span, resulting in a 5-2 defeat for the Bears in the front end of their two games Sunday at the Plainsman Invitational.

Mercer (4-4), which saw its four-game win streak snapped by a 4-3 loss to the Cougars (8-2) Saturday afternoon, held an early 1-0 lead Sunday before falling behind for good shortly after. Stella Preston took her first loss of the season in the circle after surrendering five runs – four earned – over five frames.

A double-steal by Meghan Rud and Megan Lane in the top of the first led to a RBI-groundout by Caroline Taylor for Mercer's early 1-0 advantage. The Bears would plate another run in the fifth inning as Abby Walsh came through with a RBI-single, but not before SIUE plated five runs over a three-inning span.

SIUE's Haley Chambers-Book tossed a complete game and hit a two-run home run against the Bears to lead the Cougars.

PLAYER OF THE GAME
Meghan Rud was the Bears' lightning rod once again by reaching base in all four plate appearances, going 2-for-2 with a pair of walks. Rud, who tripled for the second time this season, scored both of Mercer's runs and swiped her ninth and 10th bases.
