Megan Lane goes 2-for-2, Quirisa Mauga adds RBI-double
AUBURN, Ala. – A season-high 13 hits by No. 2 (USA Today/NFCA) Auburn gave way to a 10-1 defeat of Mercer in the Bears' final contest at the Plainsman Invitational on Sunday afternoon at Jane B. Moore Field.
Â
Mercer (4-5) took a 1-0 advantage after the first inning of play but saw the Tigers (9-1) plate two runs in the second, five in the fourth and three in the fifth to induce the mercy-rule after five full frames. It capped a 5-0 weekend for the Tigers while Mercer, which won its first two contests at the invitational, will return to Macon on a three-game skid.
Â
A RBI-double by Quirisa Mauga down the left-field line scored Megan Lane from first base in the bottom of the first inning after Lane reached on an infield single. It was the only scoring opportunity for the Bears, who could not string together any momentum against Auburn starting pitcher Kaylee Carlson.
Â
The Bears tacked on four hits in the contest while Maxine Rodriguez (0-2) took the loss after throwing the full five innings.
Â
PLAYER OF THE GAME
Megan Lane was a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with the lone run scored for the Orange and Black. It was the second two-hit performance of the year for the sophomore, who is hitting .375 and has at least one base hit in six games so far.

- Sunday's contest vs. Auburn was only the second of the season in which Mercer did not attempt or steal a base.
