3/17/2017 5:31:00 PM | Softball
MACON, Ga. – Quirisa Mauga was 1-for-3 with a double Friday afternoon but Mercer could not push a run across the plate in a 5-0 loss to Belmont as part of the Mercer Bears Classic at Sikes Field.
Â
Mauga's hit – one of only three for the Bears in the game – was a double to left to lead off the seventh inning. Two outs later Kate Buckland would add a second runner to the base paths after getting hit by a pitch but Emma Andrew flied out to left to close the game.
Â
Belmont (20-5) scored five runs in three consecutive innings, the first three of which were all solo home runs. During that stretch the Bruins also retired 14 consecutive Mercer batters.
Â
Mercer (12-17) was struck out seven times in the game but the Bears defense helped Belmont leave 10 runners on base.
Â
