MACON, Ga. – Mercer hit two home runs and took advantage of five Eastern Illinois errors as the Bears hung on for a 7-4 win Saturday as part of the Mercer Bears Classic at Sikes Field in Macon.

The win marked the second straight over Eastern Illinois this year as the Bears are now 6-0 all-time over the Panthers.

Caroline Taylor and Quirisa Mauga each hit home runs in the game, the latter hitting a two-run shot that put the Bears up 4-1 in the third inning. Mercer (14-17) would add an important run in the fifth before the Panthers (14-14) stormed back with three runs in the sixth. EIU would commit two errors in the bottom half of the inning, allowing Mercer to add two more runs to seal the win.

Maxine Rodriguez (3-5) was credited with the win after striking out five in six innings in the circle. Â Stella Preston (2) received the save after not allowing a hit in one inning pitched.

PLAYER OF THE GAME
Quirisa Mauga was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a run scored while also drawing a walk in the contest. Her one hit was a two-run home run – her fourth homer of the year.
