Megan Bilgri tosses complete game on 66 pitches
ORLANDO, Fla. – A clinical performance by Megan Bilgri in the circle and four RBIs from Quirisa Mauga led Mercer to a dominant 7-0 win over Bryant Saturday afternoon in the Disney D9 Citrus Classic II at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
Â
Bilgri, who improved to 4-0, needed only 66 pitches while limiting the Bulldogs to five total base runners and tied a career-high with four strikeouts. Mercer (10-10) received its offensive firepower from Mauga, who broke open a scoreless contest in the third with a bases-clearly double to the center field fence.
Â
Mercer scored four runs in the home half of the fifth to put the game away as Mauga, Abby Walsh and Caroline Taylor tacked on RBIs in three consecutive at bats.
Â
Bryant (1-8) never threatened as it had only one base runner reach second base, which came on a double in the top of the seventh. All four other base runners were from singles off Bilgri.
Â
PLAYER OF THE GAME
Bilgri helped Mercer halt a three-game skid dating back to Wednesday night with one of the most efficient performances of her career. Needing only 66 pitches, the junior did not issue a single walk and kept Bryant off balance all afternoon.
Â
STAT OF THE GAME
Mauga's four RBIs were the key to a Bears win. The junior has 20 RBIs for the season, only nine shy of her career-high (29) set in 2016.
