Bears Fall To Dolphins, 13-7

MACON, Ga. – An early lead for Jacksonville cost the Mercer men's lacrosse team the game as the Dolphins grabbed a 13-7 win over the Bears on Saturday afternoon. Bryan Gibson and Kevin Yoggy led Mercer with two goals each.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Jacksonville took a 3-0 lead less than five minutes into the game, as the Bears spent much of the first half on defense. Will McCarthy found the back of the net first for Mercer, making it 3-1 with 4:24 remaining in the first quarter. Gibson scored the first goal of the second period and cut Jacksonville's lead to 3-2, but the Dolphins added another three unanswered goals to take a 6-2 lead into halftime.

In the third quarter the teams traded goals, keeping Jacksonville up by four, 8-4, with 15 minutes left in the game. The Dolphins added a pair of goals at the start of the fourth quarter to stretch their lead to 10-4, but Yoggy scored his second goal of the day to slow Jacksonville down and make it 10-5 with 9:56 to play. In the final five minutes, Jacksonville outscored Mercer 3-2 as the final score moved to 13-7.

Bryan Gibson scored a career-high-tying two goals, including a beauty of a behind-the-back goal in the fourth quarter. He also tied his season high of two points and scooped up a ground ball.
