GREENVILLE, S.C. – Mercer retired 18 of Furman's last 19 batters and limited the league-leading Paladins to only three hits as the Bears claimed a 1-0 win in the series finale at Pepsi Stadium Saturday afternoon.
Â
The lone run of the game as Emma Andrew hit a sacrifice fly in the second inning to plate Quirisa Mauga, who led the inning off with a single. Caroline Taylor moved her to second with a sacrifice bunt and a single by Taylor Rodgers put her 60 feet from home.
Â
Furman (23-17, 7-2 Southern) would manage only one more hit after that as the Bears (20-26, 6-6) retired 18 of their last 19 batters. Megan Bilgri (9-7) pitched a complete game shutout and did not allow a run or a walk while fanning one.
