Mercer Drops Series Finale, 2-1

MACON, Ga. – Back-to-back errors led to a decisive second run and Mercer left seven of its nine runners on base in scoring position in dropping the series finale against UNCG, 2-1, Sunday afternoon at Sikes Field.

Mercer (19-23, 5-4 Southern) committed back-to-back errors in the fifth inning as UNCG (21-16, 4-2) scored the winning run in a close contest. Stella Preston (5-6), who was impressive in five innings of relief pitching in the circle, was charged with the loss but did not allow an earned run and struck out three while not allowing a walk.

Preston's season ERA dropped to 2.79, third-best in the Southern Conference and behind only Megan Bilgri (2.68) on the team.

In all, Mercer stranded nine runners on base in the game with seven left aboard in scoring position.
