Men’s Tennis Hosts Doubleheader Saturday Afternoon

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men's tennis team will look to continue its winning ways, hosting a pair of Peach State opponents this Saturday, Feb. 16 at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center. The Bears will first take on Georgia Southwestern State beginning at 11 a.m., followed by a match with Berry College at 3 p.m.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Georgia Southwestern State enters the matchup on a two-match skid, most recently falling 8-1 against Point University. The squad is led by a trio of seniors in Steven Blythe, Jonathan Martin and Justin Ralston. Head Coach Brennon Sewell is now in his 17th season at the helm of both the men's and women's squads.

Saturday's match will serve as the season-opener for Berry College. The Vikings finished the 2017 season with a 10-8 overall record, falling to Rhodes in the first round of the SAA Tournament. The Vikings are led by Head Coach Clay Hightower who has been with Berry since 1984. Hightower has amassed a record of 618-397 for both men's and women's teams combined.

Following play this Saturday, the Bears will hit the road for one of their toughest tests of the season, a match against ACC powerhouse, Virginia, on Friday, Feb. 23.
