Softball Set for Midweek Contests

MACON, Ga. – Mercer will travel to Tallahassee, Fla., tomorrow for a midweek doubleheader against Florida A&M at Lady Rattler Softball Complex. The first game is set to start at 4 p.m. with the second game beginning roughly 30 minutes after the conclusion of the opening game.

A Rud Awakening
Meghan Rud has proven to be a tough out for opposing pitchers this season, batting .481 on the season with 13 hits and two RBIs. Rud has also successfully swiped six stolen bases this season, running her career total to 96 to set a new Mercer program record for career steals.

Fast Starts, Strong Finishes
Mercer has gotten off to hot starts in the first two innings thus far in its first eight games. The Bears are outscoring opponents 22-10 in the first two innings of work, allowing Mercer to grasp hold of an early lead. The Bears also have proven to close games, outscoring competitors 23-9 in the fifth and sixth innings of play.

Rattle the Rattlers
Florida A&M enters the doubleheader with a 3-6 overall record, having dropped three of its last four games. The Rattlers most recently defeated Texas Tech by the final score of 2-1, snapping a three-game skid at the UCF Tournament in Orlando, Fla. Tomorrow's contests will be the home opener for Florida A&M.

Tyra Bowers leads the squad in batting, hitting .370 on the campaign with 10 hits and one RBI. The Rattlers have only mustered two long balls on the season. Veroni Burse leads the squad in the circle, posting a 2-4 record with a 3.53 ERA and 16 strikeouts.

What's Next?
The Bears will return home this weekend to host the Black & Orange Challenge, featuring 12 games, including five Mercer contests. The Bears will play host to Akron, Drexel, Eastern Kentucky and Radford.
