Bears Fall 16-8 to Jacksonville Saturday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Mercer men's lacrosse team were unable to rally late, dropping their conference opener, 16-8, to Jacksonville Saturday afternoon.
How It Happened
Mercer started the first period extremely strong. Freshman Pascal Coombs scored his eighth goal of the season just 1:42 into the game to give the Bears an early lead. Jacksonville would quickly equalize scoring 45 seconds later. Mercer would score four straight goals over the next 11 minutes with Matt Quinn and Patrick Marks scoring one and Coombs netting two for a first period hat trick. With one second remaining in the first quarter Jacksonville found the back of the net and the teams entered the break with the Bears leading, 5-2.
Jacksonville controlled the second period scoring eight straight goals and kept the Bears scoreless. The squads entered the half with Jacksonville leading, 10-5.
Attacker Brent Bishop scored his first goal of the season just 1:38 into the second half to cut the Dolphins' lead to 10-6. Once again the Bears' were unable to hold back Jacksonville's momentum, as the Dolphins scored four straight goals to end the period.
Matt Quinn and Will McCarthy scored back to back goals for the Bears in the four quarter but Mercer was unable to rally late, falling 16-8.
With the loss, Mercer falls to 2-6, while Jacksonville improves to 3-4.
