Mercer rallies past Bucknell, falters late to Rutgers
MACON, Ga. – Mercer rallied for an 8-3 victory against Bucknell but dropped its second game of the day to Rutgers, 8-5, to round out another split Saturday at the Mercer Bears Classic at Sikes Field.
Â
The Bears (18-10) are 2-2 in their final home tournament of the season through two days of action.
Â
Game 1: Mercer 8, Bucknell 3
Megan Bilgri tossed 6.2 innings of relief to lead Mercer to an 8-3 victory over Bucknell on Saturday afternoon at Sikes Field. After starting pitcher Lauren O'Dell surrendered three runs to the Bison in the top of the first inning, the Bears switched to Bilgri (7-4), who did not allow another run while scattering six hits.
Â
The Bears' bats responded well to the early deficit as well, scoring all eight runs over the first four innings played. Mercer plated three runs in the home half of the first to knot it up. A two-run home run by Caroline Taylor in the second inning put Mercer up for good. Megan Lane's second long ball of the weekend and fifth of the season added the exclamation mark in the fourth inning.

Â
Quirisa Mauga's two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth cut the Scarlet Knights' lead to two runs, but the Bears were unable to gain any further momentum over the final two innings of play. Stella Preston tossed five innings and took the loss in the circle.
