Mercer held Detroit Mercy scoreless through seven in 3-0 victory
MACON, Ga. – Mercer held Detroit Mercy off the scoreboard for seven innings, plating three runs of its own in a 3-0 victory over the Titans on Tuesday night at Sikes Field. The Bears improve to 15-5 with the victory, while the Titans fall to 3-12 on the campaign.

Neither squad could muster a scoring threat through the first three innings of work, combining for just two hits and six runners left on base.

The Titans posed a threat in the top of the fourth inning after recording three singles with just one out to load the bases. However, Megan Bilgri slammed the door shut on Detroit Mercy, inducing a ground out and a pop out to keep the visitors off the board.

Mercer struck first in the bottom of the fifth inning as Megan Lane grounded out to first with runners on second and third. Micayla Rood raced home from third and was initially thrown out until the ball popped free of the catcher's glove, allowing the freshman to reach safely and give the Bears the 1-0 advantage.

The Bears added two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning following Rood's deep double to left center, bringing home Allie Jones and Abby Walsh for the three-run lead.

The Titans were held to just one hit over the final two innings as Bilgri polished off the complete-game shutout. The Illinois senior finished the game with five hits, four strikeouts and zero walks to improve to 5-3 on the season.
