Pitcher of the Week
Jill McElderry was named SoCon Pitcher of the Week on Monday after turning in a 2-0 performance this past weekend with two complete games and just two earned runs. The senior righty improved to 4-1 on the season with an ERA of 1.69. The Florida native ended the week with 13 strikeouts, bringing her season total to a team-high 42.
Â
The Georgia Slugger
Who cares about a Louisville Slugger, when you have the Georgia Slugger known as Caroline Taylor? The redshirt-senior has displayed some pop in her bat, belting six home runs on the season. Taylor's six dingers leads all NCAA Division I players in the state of Georgia, while also leading the Southern Conference.
Â
No Mercy
The Bears' first game of the week will be against the Titans of Detroit Mercy. The Titans enter the contest with a 3-11 overall record, having dropped eight consecutive games. Detroit Mercy most recently fell to Georgia Tech on Sunday by the final score of 8-6. The Titans are led in hitting by Elizabeth Yager with a .375 batting average. Meanwhile, Savvy Ferstle paces the squad in long balls (3) and runs batted in (10). This will be the first time these two squads have squared off.
Â
Dominating the Dolphins
Mercer is 16-12 all-time against Jacksonville as the two squads were former A-Sun competitors. The Bears have won three consecutive matchups against the Dolphins as the two squads last met on March 22-23, 2014. Jacksonville is 11-9 on the season, having dropped two consecutive games to Iowa State (3-2) and Campbell (7-1) on Sunday. Kristen Griffith leads the team in batting with a .340 average on 18 hits in 53 at bats. Madison Ragan leads the squad with three long balls, while Heather Roberts paces the Dolphins in runs batted in with 13.
