Mercer defeats The Citadel, 6-1, in Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Mercer men's tennis team earned its first Southern Conference victory of the season when it defeated The Citadel, 6-1, at the Jack Adams Tennis Center on Friday.

Mercer improved to 8-9 overall and 1-1 in league play while dropping the Bulldogs to 8-21 (0-4 SoCon).

The Bears swept doubles competition before earning five singles wins, including three in straight sets by Olivier Stuart (6-0, 6-0), Nicolas Guilllon (6-1, 6-0) and Stathis Tsiranidis (6-4, 6-1) in the No. 1, 2 and 3 matches. Carver Arant and Piyush Salekar additionally picked up singles wins in three sets in the No. 4 and 6 matches.

The Bears stay on the road to face Chattanooga in SoCon play on Sunday at 1 p.m. (ET).
