Mercer Drops First of Two Games at Florida

Bears plate a pair of runs late in 10-2 defeat
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Mercer was defeated, 10-2, by No. 6 nationally-ranked Florida in the first of two games between the two teams at KSP Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Bears (13-19) faced a tall task against Florida starting pitcher Kelly Barnhill, who threw three innings and improved to 17-3 overall in the circle. The Gators (26-6) plated all 10 runs over the three-inning span to jump ahead early.

Mercer scored twice in the fifth inning as Kenlie Harvey and Megan Lane crossed the plate. Harvey led off the frame with a walk and was followed by a single from Lane, giving Mercer two runners on with no outs. An error by Florida's pitcher in the next at bat allowed Harvey to score before Shaila Warren drove home Lane with a RBI single.

The contest ended after five innings due to a run rule.
