Bears fall to host Auburn and Michigan State on Friday
Â
The Bears moved to 10-12 overall with the two losses and will look to rebound with three games remaining on their weekend trip to Auburn. Freshman Kenlie Harvey led the Bears offensively, going 3-for-5 with two runs batted in over the two games.
Â
No. 20 Auburn 10, Mercer 2 (6 innings)
Mercer saw a short-lived lead falter early on as the host Tigers plated seven runs over the first three innings of action on Friday afternoon. Allie Jones drove in Megan Lane with a RBI single in the top of the first, but the Tigers scored four times in the home half on a home run, triple and double against Mercer starting pitcher Lynn Gardner.
Â
Mercer's second run came in the second inning when Harvey reached on a bunt single. The freshman then scored on a RBI single by Micayla Rood. The duo notched two hits apiece. Gardner took the loss, tossing all five innings before Auburn earned the run-rule win.
Â
Michigan State 6, Mercer 5
The Bears scored all five of their runs in the third inning but squandered their lead in a 6-5 loss to Michigan State. Bailey Pattison tossed all seven innings and took the loss (4-5), despite Mercer owning a 6-3 advantage entering the sixth frame.
Â
Michigan State took a 3-0 in the top of the third with a pair of home runs. Mercer tied it up and then took the lead in the home half of the third when Megan Lane and Danielle Castleberry notched RBI singles and Abby Walsh recorded a sacrifice fly. A two-run double by Harvey capped Mercer's big inning and gave the Bears the lead.
Â
The Spartans regained their lead in the sixth with a RBI groundout, RBI double and RBI single.
