First-Place Bears to Host Chattanooga this Weekend

Bears opens a three-game weekend on Friday

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer softball team will welcome Southern Conference foe Chattanooga to Sikes Field for a three-game series this weekend.

The series opens on Friday at 7 p.m., followed by a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 and 3 p.m. Live stats will be provided for all three contests. Mercer (19-21, 5-1 SoCon) is coming off a series sweep of ETSU last weekend and sits atop the SoCon standings after six league games.

QUICK HITS

Mercer swept ETSU last weekend on the road, winning 5-4, 3-1 and 5-2 in the series.
Danielle Castleberry is the SoCon's leader in hits (42) and on base percentage (.479). She ranks second in the league in batting average (.362).
Not to be outdone, Megan Lane ranks second in the league in hits (41). She is batting .325.
Lane was named the SoCon Player of the Week on Monday.
Mercer ranks second in the league with stolen bases per game (1.23) and batting average (.282).
Micayla Rood leads the conference in runs scored (35) with Lane closely behind (30).
Abby Walsh is third in the SoCon with her three triples this season.
Bailey Pattison leads Mercer in the circle with a 3.75 ERA and nine wins. The freshman has seen action in 97.1 innings and has struck out 47 batters.
Fellow freshman Lynn Gardner has recorded eight wins and three saves this season during her 105.0 innings pitched. The lefty has struck out 52 batters.

SERIES HISTORY
The Bears trail Chattanooga, 26-19, all-time, but most recently swept the Mocs in Chattanooga, Tenn. last season. Mercer has won five straight games against Chattanooga dating back to the 2017 season.

SCOUTING CHATTANOOGA
The Mocs enter the weekend with a 2-4 SoCon record, having defeated Furman twice while suffering a series sweep at the hands of UNCG. Emma Sturdivant and Aly Walker lead the Mocs' offense with a combined 75 hits, 39 runs, 12 doubles, five home runs and 45 RBI between the two of them. Mariah Ramirez is 10-0 in the circle with 61 strikeouts. Chattanooga's pitching staff owns a collective 2.40 ERA.
