Bears fall 4-2 to Chattanooga
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer softball team dropped a series-opening Southern Conference contest to Chattanooga on Friday night, falling 4-2 at Sikes Field.

The Bears moved to 19-22 overall and 5-2 in league play with the loss. Mercer notched its first run of the game during the third inning after Micayla Rood singled to left field and scored Shaila Warren.

Rood's RBI proved to be the lone run in the contest until the sixth inning, when Chattanooga tagged Mercer starting pitcher Lynn Gardner for four runs on four hits. The Mocs singled, doubled and notched two home runs in the frame to take a 4-1 lead heading into the home half of the sixth.

Gardner, who took the loss, was effective through the first five frames, as she allowed just one runner past second base.

The Bears earned their final run of the game in the bottom of the seventh when Rood came through again with a RBI single in a bases-loaded situation. Trailing 4-2 with one out and the bases loaded, Mercer's threat ended with a fielder's choice play and foul pop-out.
