Kenlie Harvey hits three-run home run in 5-4 victory
MACON, Ga. – Kenlie Harvey hit a three-run home run in the first inning and Stella Preston picked up her first win of the year as Mercer defeated Florida A&M, 5-4, on Wednesday at Sikes Field.
Despite Florida A&M (12-22) jumping out to a 2-0 advantage in the top of the first, Mercer (16-21) used a five-hit, five-run home half frame to seize control of the contest. The Bears loaded the bases on singles by Micayla Rood and Laurenne Sanchez while Danielle Castleberry reached on an error. A RBI groundout by Allie Jones gave way to Harvey, who connected with a three-run long ball to left field, making it a 4-2 lead for the Bears. A one-out single by Megan Lane eventually led to her scoring on a fielder's choice play.
Florida A&M cut Mercer's lead to two runs (5-3) with its second home run of the game in the second inning, but Preston settled in after that. The redshirt sophomore tossed four innings and struck out five Rattlers while issuing just one walk en route to earning the win. Preston was backed by Lynn Gardner, who earned a three-inning save. The freshman left-hander allowed one unearned run on two hits.

» Micayla Rood matched a season-high with three hits. She went 3-for-4.
» Laurenne Sanchez reached base twice with a single and walk. She also stole one base.
