Sophomore sets another school record in 100-meter hurdles, helps Bears win 4x100 relay

OXFORD, Ala. – Cherrish Wright won the 100-meter hurdles event in record-breaking fashion and helped Mercer win the 4x100-meter relay at the Jacksonville State-hosted Girls Day Out meet on Saturday at Choccoloco Park.

Mercer won five different events, including the 100-meter hurdles (Wright), 100-meter dash (Lauryn Dancy, 12.23), 200-meter dash (Tessola Duncan, 25.03), 4x100-meter relay (46.21) and 4x400-meter relay (3:55.37). Mercer competed in 12 total events throughout the afternoon.

Wright was joined by Dancy, Kennedi Weston-Shields and Duncan, who combined for Mercer's fastest 4x100-meter relay time of the year, 46.21 seconds. Wright's 100-meter hurdles victory came in a school-record 14.35 seconds. It is the second time in three meets that the sophomore has set a school record in the event.

Mercer took the top three finishes in the 100-meter dash as Dancy was followed by Duncan (12.41) and Weston-Shields (12.42). Ashley McMahon took second in the 3000-meter Steeplechase (12:20.04). Myranda Ham was second in the 800-meter run (2:28.59), Marina Van Sickle earned a third-place finish in the 5000-meter run as well.
