Byrd spent the last two seasons at Northwest Florida State College
MACON, Ga. – Mercer head softball coach Stephanie DeFeo announced Tuesday the signing of junior college transfer and right-handed pitcher Amber Byrd.
Â
"Amber will be a great addition to our pitching staff," DeFeo said. "She has quite a bit of collegiate experience from her two years at Northwest Florida State. I think she'll mesh with our other players because she's a great competitor with a vigorous work ethic."
Â
Byrd appeared in the circle over 60 times in her two-year junior college career and led the Raiders in strikeouts both seasons – 118 her freshman year and 75 during her sophomore campaign. She was one of just 14 pitchers in the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) to rack up over 100 strikeouts in 2018 and was an all-conference second team selection.
Â
A native of Jackson, Tenn., Byrd lettered in softball, soccer, basketball, volleyball and tennis – and was a cheerleader – while finishing with a 3.9 GPA at Liberty Technology Magnet School.
