Mercer Heads to Tennessee For Friday Afternoon Match

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer Bears will hit the road for their sixth match of the spring season, traveling to No. 16 Tennessee on Friday for a 4 p.m. match.
Mercer comes into the contest with a 2-3 overall record. The Bears won their match, 4-3, over the Presbyterian College Blue Hose on Saturday with Carver Arant clinching the victory with a 1-6, 6-1, 6-2 win over Jaime Castillo-Lopez in the No. 3 singles position.

Tennessee is currently tied with the Michigan Wolverines for 16th in the Oracle/ITA Division I top-25 poll. The Vols enter tomorrow's match with a record of 6-1 but are coming off their first defeat of the season, a 4-2 loss to Columbia on Sunday. Mercer is Tennessee's second SoCon opponent of the season. The Vols defeated The Citadel on January 20, sweeping the Bulldogs, 7-0.
Tennessee currently has a pair of players – Adam Walton and Finn Stodder – ranked in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's top-125 singles poll. Walton sits inside the top-25 at No. 23, while Stodder is ranked 112th. The Vols also have a pair of teams in the ITA doubles poll, which ranks the top 60 teams in the country.
