LAST TIME OUT
Leon Ayers III's career-high 23 points helped the Bears jump out to a sizable lead over The Citadel Bulldogs and cruise to an 83-63 win in Charleston on Wednesday. Ayers III hit his first 10 shots of the night and finished with a stellar stat line of 23 points accompanied by eight rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals. Mercer (9-4, 2-3 SoCon) led for all but 36 seconds, leaving little doubt as to who the victor would be on Wednesday. The Bears shot a scorching 66.7 percent (22-of-33) over the first 20 minutes but cooled off in the final half, ending the night at 53.7 percent (36-of-63) from the field. Five Mercer players finished in double figures with four-of-five starters scoring more than 10 points. Today, the Bears will host the Keydets in the InglesSoCon Game of the Week.Â

MOVING UP THE LIST
Ross Cummings became the 43rd player in Mercer men's basketball history to reach at least 1,000 career points when he made a layup with 5:45 to go against Wofford on Dec. 29. He scored 22 points against Furman to move into 40th all-time. Below are the players he is trying to catch. Prior to Cummings, the last Bear to join the 1,000 point club was Ethan Stair. Stair joined the club last season on Jan. 28 at Samford. The all-time leading scorer is James Florence. Florence played for the Bears from 2006-10 and tallied 2,286 points in his career. Cummings' 1,061 points rank him 36th in program history.
