Three Bears scored in double digits

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Bears came up short in the second half in Fort Myers against Florida Gulf Coast with the final of 67-55 at Alico Arena.

Mercer (7-5) had three players score in double figures. Mercer was led by James Glisson III's 19 points. Jalen Johnson was right behind him with 18 points on 6-of-12 shooting from deep, while Felipe Haase added 11 points to round out the scoring for the Bears. Jacksen Greco saw 10 minutes for the Bears as Jovan Tucker added six minutes and Victor Bafutto three minutes. Mercer shot 6-7 from the charity stripe. The Orange & Black will head back home next with action beginning Wednesday, Dec. 22 in Hawkins Arena at 6 p.m. against Troy.

Florida Gulf Coast (10-3) did not have an answer for the Bears in the first 29 minutes in the game. However, in the second half, FGCU's offense showed up and went 19-of-32 shooting, and 7-of-14 from 3-point range, to earn the victory on the day. Tavian Dunn-Martian had 20 points and 12 assists as Cyrus Largie had 15 points and eight rebounds as the Eagles earned its fourth straight win on the season. FGCU has now played nine home games on the year. Kevin Samuel added 11 points, 10 rebounds and three assists.

NOTABLES:

Glisson III led the Bears with 19 points.
Johnson went 50% from 3PT.
Johnson recorded his first career double-double with 18 points – 12 rebounds.
The Bears shot 6-7 from the FT line.
Greco stepped up and recorded two steals on the day.
