The Bears return to action on Saturday against Austin Peay at 4 p.m. (3 p.m. central)

TROY, Ala. – The Mercer softball team dropped its opening game at the Troy Invitational to the host Trojans on Friday afternoon.

Elisa Rosado, Allie Jones and Annie Potter all recorded base hits in the game for Mercer with Potter legging out her second double of the season. Rosado was one of three Bears to earn a free pass in the game as well, along with Rachel Baker and Bree Comer. Danielle Castleberry also reached base after being hit by a pitch. Rosado, Castleberry, Jones and Diamond Williams each scored a run for Mercer in the game.

How It Happened
Mercer sprinted out of the gate to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. The Bears scored all of their runs with two outs after loading the bases thanks to a pair of one-out hits by Elisa Rosado and Allie Jones sandwiched around Danielle Castleberry getting hit by a pitch. Diamond Williams pressured the Trojans' defense into making an errant throw that allowed Rosado and Castleberry to score while she moved up to second and Jones advanced to third. Potter laced a 1-2 offering into left field for a two-run double in the next at-bat to pad Mercer's lead.

Troy responded with a leadoff home run by Jade Sinness in the bottom of the first before Anslee Finch hit a solo shot to cut the deficit in half in the second inning. The home team used a sacrifice fly to pull within one before Kelly Horne and Kennedi Gatton hit back-to-back homers to take a 6-4 lead.

Reliever Ashlyn Donner retired the first four batters she faced, including setting the Trojans down in order in the fourth inning. Troy went back on the offensive in the following frame, however, as it scored six runs to seal the win.

Notables
» Rosado recorded a hit for the third-straight game.
» Potter recorded multiple RBI for the second time in three games.
» Potter recorded her second hit of the season, both of which have been doubles.
