Mercer was defeated by in-state opponent Georgia Southern on Sunday
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men's tennis team was defeated by in-state opponent Georgia Southern, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Complex.
Like Friday's match at Stetson, the Bears had multiple matches get pushed to a third set on the day.
Mercer trailed early as Georgia Southern took the doubles point as they won all three doubles matches.
Georgia Southern added to its in singles play. The Eagles took No. 2 singles, No. four singles and No. 3 singles.
Mercer picked up its first point of the day in No. 1 singles. Hugo Lobo won the first set against Murphy McCullough 6-4. Needing to win the next set, Lobo was defeated 6-4, forcing a third set. Lobo continued to battle and pulled off a third-set win, 6-3, giving the Bears their first point.
The Bears found themselves in another third-set In No. 5 singles. David Georgadze and were Alexandros Roumpis played a highly contested match. Roumpis won 6-1 in the first set. Georgadze came back ting a close second set 7-5. Roumpis won the third-set 6-2.
Mercer's Michael Durham was locked in a three set match like Lobo and Georgadze in No. 6 singles. Durham won the first set, 6-3, but dropped set two, 6-2. In the winner-take-all set, Durham came back strong winning 6-2 and giving the Bears another point. Mercer dropped the match to Georgia Southern, 5-2.
