Mercer Falls to Loyola and FSU
Tallahassee, FL. – The Mercer softball team falls in both games of their season opener to Loyola Chicago and Florida State University.Â
Â
Game One: Loyola 6, Mercer 5
Hannah Pitts and the Bears defense held the Ramblers to zero runs at the top of the first to start the game. Rebeca Laudino would be first at bat and singled to left center. Laudino would score off a homer to left field by Diamond Williams, giving the Bears an early lead of two. Kenlie Harvey would walk, and Annie Potter hit a single to shortstop before the end of the first inning.Â

The Bears extended their lead in the bottom of the second with a two RBI from Adele Braun, allowing Williams and Alyssa Woods to run. Atira Mcgowan pinch ran for Tori Ash and ran home after Williams reached on an error by 2b.Â

The Ramblers brought the game within two in the top of the fourth, 5-3. A single to left field allowed the runner on third base to advance home, putting the Ramblers on the board. The next two Rambler points would come from a fielder's choice to pitcher and a single bunt to the pitcher.

The Bears remained in the lead until a double and error by center field allowed the Ramblers to tie the game in the top of the seventh.Â

The game would continue for three extra innings, ending in a Rambler win after scoring in the top of the 10th, 6-5.Â

Game Two: FSU 12, Mercer 0Â
A walk by Laudino would start the first inning. The Bears allowed one run from the Seminoles before the second inning.Â
Â
The second inning for the Bears would end on a double play. The Seminoles extended their lead by four with an error by center and two homers, 4-0.Â
Â
The Seminoles totaled an additional seven runs in the bottom of the third inning to extend their lead to 11.Â
Â
The Seminoles final run came from a triple followed by a single in the bottom of the fourth. The game ended after the top of the fifth (run rule), 12-0.Â

Up Next
The Bears will face Loyola Chicago again tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. followed by a game against Kennesaw State at 5:30 p.m. Â
