Mercer to compete in JU/UNF Invitational
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer Softball team continues their season on the road and will compete in the JU/UNF Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla.Â
Â
The Bears will play five games over the weekend against three different opponents. Mercer will begin play on Friday with a double-header against the University of North Florida (5:00/7:30 p.m.). The Bears will begin play once Saturday in a match-up against Jacksonville. On Sunday, the Bears play Michigan State at 10:00 a.m. followed by the final game against Jacksonville at 12:30 p.m.Â

MERCER OUTLOOKÂ
Mercer is off to a 1-5 start after playing at the Joanne Graf Invitational to open the season, followed by a Tuesday night game versus Georgia Tech. The Bears dropped games against Loyola Chicago (6-5, 4-2), Florida State (12-0), Kennesaw State (11-3), and Georgia Tech (9-1), but found victory against Loyola (4-3).Â

Diamond Williams leads with a .375 % in six games, has the team's only home run and has the team-best three RBI.Â

SCOUTING University of North FloridaÂ
In their opening weekend, North Florida went 4-1 with wins over Campbell (4-2), Florida A&M (2-0) and Winthrop (4-0, 10-2). Their sole loss was against NC State, 6-5, in extra innings. This season's start is the best recorded for the program since 2015.

Shannon Glover leads the team, hitting .471, runs (4), hits (8), and RBIs (4). Glover is tied in doubles (2) with Kayla McGory and Paige Pfent. Morgan Clausen leads the pitchers with a 0.43 ERA.Â

Marcie Higgs enters her 14th season over the Ospreys and is the all-time wins leader in UNF's Division I history with 337 victories.

Jacksonville enters the weekend 0-6 with losses against NC State (8-0), Western Carolina (2-1, 4-3), Campbell (18-0), and Florida (13-1, 8-0).

Allison Bratek leads the team, hitting .294, runs (1), hits (5), and RBIs (2). Skylar Whitty leads the pitchers with a 7.27 ERA.Â

Head Coach Erica Ayers is within her fourth season. Last season was the most successful for the Dolphins as they finished 29-20 overall and 9-9 in the ASUN.Â

Michigan State has started their season with a 3-2 record. The Spartans were victorious against Pittsburg (1-0), UCONN (6-0), and Akron (6-0) but fell to Kentucky (0-7) and Virginia Tech (1-5). Â

Courtney Callahan holds a strong .500 at bat. Ashley Miller leads in runs (2) while Alexis Barroso leads in hits (5) and RBIs (3). Camryn Wincher and Macy Lee are tied with Barraso in hits and RBIs respectively.
