Mercer defeated by Charleston Southern

Charleston, S.C. – The Mercer Bears were defeated in all three games of their weekend trip to Charleston Southern.

"Hannah Pitts threw very well all weekend," said Head Coach Lindsay Fico. "She comes out time and time again with great stuff. She's quite the competitor. We just haven't managed to produce 3 or more runs to help her and the entire pitching staff win a ballgame.

"We have to find a way to be more productive at the plate for our win column to change. We will re-focus our efforts at practice this week to get the job done."

Charleston Southern 2, Mercer 0
A single by Rebeca Laudino would start the game. A sacrifice bunt by Kenlie Harvey would advance Laudino to second before a single by Tori Hedgecock advanced her to third. Adele Braun would walk to load the bases, but the Bears would be unable to capitalize.

Kenlie Harvey would be responsible for all three put outs in the bottom of the first and would be the only hit in the top of the third with a single up the middle.

Walks from Kylie Helm in the top of the fourth and by Laudino in the top of the fifth were the only times the Bears reached base in those two innings.

In the bottom of the sixth, Ashley Meckley singled and eventually stole second. A homer from Seaenna Satcher gave the Buccaneers their two-point lead.

The final hit of the game came from Helm in the top of the seventh as the lead off.

The Bears struggled to respond to the Buccaneers, losing the game by two.

The Bears will travel to Clemson for a mid-week game on Wednesday, March 9^th at 6:00 p.m.
