
Bears Win First Conference Game

Mercer Defeats Furman Twice
Macon, Ga.– The Mercer softball team and Head Coach Lindsay Fico secure first conference wins in doubleheader against Furman. The Bears win both games, securing the series versus the Paladins. Â
MERCER 1, FURMAN 0
Rebeca Laudino would be the first Bear to record a single. As the lead off in the bottom of the first, Laudino singled to the shortstop followed by a singled from Alyssa Woods. Kenlie Harvey earned a walk, but the game would remain scoreless.Â
In the bottom of the second Tori Ash would be the only Bear to single.Â
Diamond Williams earned a walk in the bottom of the third along with a single from Grace Prom.Â
The Bears reached the board in the bottom of the fifth starting with a double from Annie Potter. A single from Williams to left-field scored Potter giving the Bears a one-point lead.Â
In the bottom of the sixth, Tori Hedgecock earned a walk along with another single from Laudino.Â
The game finished after the top of the seventh, with the Paladins unable to answer allowing the Bears to secure their first conference win.
MERCER 3, FURMAN 2Â
In the bottom of the first a double from Potter followed by a double from Williams scored Potter, a similar result from the first game.Â
The Bears extended their lead in the bottom of the second. Hedgecock would be the first on base, reaching on an error by third base. Sophie Sumner touched base after being hit by the pitcher. With Bears on first and second, Laudino singled to right field scoring Hedgecock. Mercer 2, Furman 0.Â
The Paladins tied the game in the top of the fifth. Ludlam reached on fielder's choice and would be met on base by Morgan who singled to third. A double from Griffin scored both Ludlam and Morgan, tie game.
Prom led the bottom of the fourth with a walk. Madison Headley entered the game to pinch run for Prom and stole second before a walk from Morgan Hall. A sacrifice bunt from Hedgecock advanced Hall and Headley before a single from Laudino scored Headley.Â
Prom would walk again in the bottom of the sixth along with a single from Hall.
Again, the Paladins would be unable to respond to the Bears, ending the game after the top of the seventh.Â

The last game of the series will be played at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.Â
