Bears Open Conference Play in North Carolina

The Mercer Bears will travel this weekend to face UNC Greensboro and Western Carolina University.
Macon, GA - The Mercer volleyball team will be on the road for the third time this month to start Southern Conference play. The Bears will face UNCG in Greensboro, NC on Friday (Sept. 23) and WCU in Cullowhee, NC on Saturday(Sept. 24).

NOTABLE BEARS
- Annie Karle leads the team in kills this season. After a phenomenal performance at the Stetson Invitational, she was named SoCon Offensive Player of the Week (Sept. 13). She averages four kills per set with over 1000 career kills. Karle currently holds second place for the most kills and serving aces in the SoCon.
- Freshman setter, Kiera McCarles, is a crucial component of the Bears' success this season. McCarles sits in fourth for most assists in the SoCon with 392 this season.Â
- Middle hitter, Paige Wagers, continues to dominate this season as she leads the team in blocks. Wagers has 45 blocks this season and is second in the conference.Â
The Spartans are 6-7Â this season and are currently on a four-game losing streak. This will be the 18th meeting between the two teams. UNCG leads the series 10-8, however, Mercer has won four straight in the series. The Spartans are fourth in the conference for digs with an outside hitter, Taylor Robertson, ranking fourth in the conference for kills.
SCOUTING THE CATAMOUNTS
WCUÂ is 7-5 on the season. This will be the 32nd meeting between the two teams with Mercer leading the last 10 matchups 6-4. The Catamounts feature middle blocker Eden Punch who was SoCon's Defensive player of the week (Aug. 30) and SoCon's Offensive player of the week (Aug. 30) Merry Gebel.
