Saturday vs. Alabama A&M (10 a.m.) and Piedmont (2 p.m.)

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men's tennis program will play its first home matches of the season on Saturday, January 28 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. against Alabama A&M and Piedmont, respectively. Matches will be played at the Randy Stephens Tennis Center. Sunday's matches against Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and Emmanuel College have been postponed due to weather. The match against ABAC has been rescheduled for February 5. The match against Emmanuel has not been rescheduled at this time.

SCOUTING ALABAMA A&M
Saturday's match will be the season opener for Alabama A&M. The Bulldogs had a difficult 2022 season, finishing 4-14 overall, but two of these wins did come in Southwestern Athletic Conference play.

This is the second year in a row Alabama A&M opens the year against Mercer as the Bears swept the Bulldogs in Macon last January. Samuel Barrow and Samuel MacLeod each earned straight-set singles wins in the victory. Barrow teamed up with Andrew Branicki to win doubles on court two while MacLeod earned a doubles win on court three as well.

SCOUTING PIEDMONT
Saturday's match will be a season-opening exhibition for Division III Piedmont. The Lions posted a successful 2022 season, finishing 16-6 overall and 5-1 in the USA South. Piedmont will be competing in the Collegiate Conference of the South this season.

RECENT ACTION
The Bears have been idle since January 16 after the season began with road defeats to Alabama and Kennesaw State. Mercer earned a singles point in each match after Marceau Foulihoux beat Joao Ferreira of Alabama and Samuel MacLeod took down Hugo Salmeron of KSU.
