
Mercer Grabs Two Wins Over Alabama A&M, Piedmont

6-1 vs. Alabama A&M; 7-0 vs. Piedmont
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men's tennis program (2-2) earned its first wins of the season with a 6-1 victory over Alabama A&M (0-1) followed by a 7-0 win over Piedmont (0-0) on Saturday at the Randy Stephens Tennis Complex.
Nemanja Stefanovic and Samuel Barrow each finished 4-0 on the day with singles and doubles wins in both matches.
MATCH VS ALABAMA A&M
Mercer won the doubles point with victories on court one and court three. Stefanovic/Lucas Dini won 6-1 on court one while Barrow/Andrew Branicki won 6-4 on court three.
Stefanovic did not lose a single game on court two for singles, claiming the second point for the Bears with a 6-0, 6-0 win.
Alabama A&M gained a point back as Chetanna Amadike defeated Branicki 6-2, 6-4. Samuel MacLeod edged Divesh Gahlot on court three 7-5, 7-6 (7-2) for the third Mercer point.
Three singles matches went to a third set. Mariano Argote won the first set on court one 6-2 before dropping the second set 6-4, but he recovered in the third set to win 6-2 and clinch the match for the Bears.
Barrow finished next on court six with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 victory. Marceau Foulihoux concluded the match with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 win on court five.
MATCH VS PIEDMONT
All three doubles pairings won against Piedmont as Stefanovic/Dini finished first on court one, 6-1, followed by Barrow/Branicki, 6-1, on court three. Court two of MacLeod/Argote finished 6-2 in favor of the Bears.
Two players did not surrender a single game to their opponent in singles as Foulihoux and Barrow won 6-0, 6-0 on courts five and six, respectively. Stefanovic claimed the first singles point for the Bears with a 6-1, 6-0 win on court two.
Branicki won 6-3, 6-0 on court four before MacLeod won 6-1, 6-1 on court three to clinch the match. Argote finished out his match 6-2, 6-2 on court one.
UP NEXT: Mercer is next in action on Sunday, February 5 for the rescheduled match against Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.
