DELAND, FL – The Mercer softball team concluded 3-2 at the Stetson Classic this morning. The Bears finished with a win against Fairfield University, 5-3.

How It Happened
    Mercer had a strong defensive start with a three up, three down. Alyssa Woods picked up her first single of the game and was brought home thanks to a double to right center from Kylie Helm. Fairfield was able to get one run in on a double in the top of the second. Katie Rearley recorded a strikeout that helped the Bears close the inning with two left on base. Another hit from Woods sent home Parris Wiggs, she doubled into the left field earlier in the inning. Mercer finished the inning with one run on three hits with three left stranded.
    Fairfield recorded a hit but was caught stealing to second by Mercer's defense in the top of the third. A single up the middle from Morgan Hall brings Madi Wicker home to further Mercer's lead 4-1. Rebeca Laudino and Tori Hedgecock turned a double play to retire Fairfield in the top of the fourth. Mercer's offensive game brought in two runs due to an error and an RBI from Bailey Ledvina. With two left on, the Bears led at bottom of the fourth 5-1.
    The Bear's defensive held strong serving a three up, three down in the top of the fifth and had little action offensively in the bottom. Grace Taylor came in for Rearley at the top of the sixth with Fairfield gaining two runs off of RBIs. Mercer was served a three up, three down in the bottom of the sixth, but were able to hold Fairfield and take the game 5-3.

The Bears will return home this week to host Troy University on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 5:00 p.m. on Sikes Field.
