Mercer Concludes First Day of Mercer Bear Invitational

MACON, Ga.- The Mercer Bears opened up their first day at the Mercer Bear Invitational with a loss against South Carolina 11-1.
How It Happened
    Katie Rearley started off for Bears against the hot bats of the Gamecocks as they scored four runs on four hits in the first inning. Lead off Alyssa Woods reached by a throwing error but Mercer bats were unable to bring her in.
    Both teams went 1-2-3 in the second and the third inning.South Carolina picked up the pace and scored seven runs and had back to back to back home runs. Riley Hickok entered the circle and was able to finish out the fourth inning with Mercer trailing 11-0.
    Bailey Ledvina singled but Bears were unable to push a run across. With the Bears back on the defense, Madi Wicker came at the top of the fifth and held the Gamecocks to one hit and no runs. Tori Hedgecock lead off the bottom of the fifth with a double. She would score thanks to an error on  a single from Sophie Sumner. This was all the momentum the Bears were able to get. The inning finished with two ground outs and South Carolina took it in five innings.Â
Up Next
    The Bears will continue with the Mercer Bear Invitational tomorrow, Feb. 25. Their first game will be against Belmont at 1:30 p.m. and the second right after against Jacksonville University at 4:00.
