Softball to Host Mercer Bear Invitational

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer softball team will host the Mercer Bear Invitational this weekend. The Bears will host Tennessee Tech, Jacksonville University, South Carolina, and Belmont.

"Opening the weekend at home Friday night against South Carolina under the lights will be a great experience for our team," said head coach Fico. "I want to see them fight harder from the beginning. We need to find a way to produce runs earlier in games to help set a better tone for our pitching staff and defense."

ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
    University of South Carolina
        The Gamecocks are 9-1 on the season and are currently on a nine-game winning streak. South Carolina leads the series 3-0 with the last meeting coming in 2018. This season marks the 50th season of Carolina Softball. Mercer will have to watch out for Jen Cummings who is currently ranked second in the nation in on-base percentage (.724).

    Belmont University
        The Bears sit 7-1 on the season with their first loss coming to UAB this past Sunday (6-4). This will be the 11th all-time meeting between the two teams with Belmont leading the series 7-3. Belmont holds a strong pitching front with Maya Johnson who has pitched 28.1 innings with a 0.95 ERA.

    Jacksonville University
        The Jacksonville Dolphins sit at 5-5 on the season after going 2-2 this past weekend at the JU/UNF Invitational. Mercer picked up two wins against them last year at the Osprey/Dolphin Invite. The Bears will have to look out for infielder, Madison Reynolds who leads the team in hits (9) and a .917 FLD%.
