
Lengthy Match Lands in Favor of Jacksonville State

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – After over four hours, the Mercer men's tennis program (6-7) was narrowly edged by Jacksonville State (6-5), 4-3, on Wednesday afternoon.
Mariano Argote/Samuel MacLeod won a quick doubles match on court one, 6-1. The other two matches were much closer as Nemanja Stefanovic/Marceau Foulihoux were tied 4-4 on court two when Samuel Barrow/Lucas Dini won 6-4 on court three to clinch the doubles point for the Bears.
The Gamecocks took a 2-1 lead after wins on courts six and three. MacLeod tied the score after a 6-4, 6-4 win on court four over Lucius Soller. Stefanovic put Mercer back in the lead with a win on court two. He played to a tiebreak in the first set 7-6 (7-5) and secured the point with a 6-4 win in the second set.
Jacksonville State tied the score at three all after a three-set win by Vanja Dobrnjac on court five against Foulihoux. The first set went to a tiebreak which Foulihoux dominated, 7-2. Dobrnjac took the second set 7-5, sending it to a third set, which Dobrnjac won, 6-4.
On court one, Argote and Xavier Sarda Marti battled for over three hours with two of the three sets finishing in tiebreaks. Argote won the first set 7-6 (7-4) while Sarda Marti claimed the second 7-6 (7-2). After such an extensive match, Argote fell 6-2 in the third set, giving the Gamecocks a 4-3 win.
MacLeod is now on a three-match winning streak in singles and a four-match winning streak in doubles with Argote.
UP NEXT: Mercer will head east to face Georgia Southern on Saturday, March 4 at 2 p.m.
