
Mercer Handles Manhattan In 20-6 Win

Bears with another balanced attack with 11 different goal scorers
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's lacrosse team used a big second quarter to pull away from Manhattan in a 20-6 win on a rainy Sunday afternoon in Macon.
The Bears outscored Manhattan 8-1 in the second quarter to take a 12-2 lead into halftime.
Mercer outshot Manhattan 30-20 and held the Jaspers to just four shots on goal in the first half. Turnovers were 18-12 in favor of the Bears.
The Bears had 11 different goal scorers account for their 20Â goals, led by Maddi Koury who had a career-high five goals and one assist.
Erin Degnan had three goals, two assists and three draw controls. Kayla Soltys led the Bears with eight draw controls to go with one goal and one assist.
Mercer goalie Kate Vanderlinde made seven saves allowing just three goals with a .700 save percentage, before Kayla Casey took over in goal in the fourth quarter.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After Manhattan scored the first goal of the game less than 30 seconds in, the Bears responded scoring the next nine goals.
Hannah Lind scored the first goal of the game for the Bears followed by a man-up goal for Koury to give Mercer a 2-1 lead.
Gabby DiVirgilio's second goal of the game followed by Koury's third goal of the game late in the second quarter put Mercer up 12-2 going into halftime.
Lyndsey Lewis scored two of Mercer's first three goals to open up the scoring in the third quarter.
Mercer's last three goals were first career goals for Caroline Glus, Abby Vane and Abby Morrison.
