MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men's tennis program will play its final non-conference match of the season away at Alabama State on Wednesday, March 22 at 11 a.m. (ET).

RECENT ACTION
The Bears are coming off a huge conference win against ETSU, defeating the Bucs 4-3 and handing the team its first SoCon loss since rejoining the league in 2015.Â

Samuel Barrow and Andrew Branicki teamed up at the second doubles slot and defeated their opponents 6-2 while Marceau Foulihoux and Nemanja Stefanovic beat the opposing third doubles team 6-4 to clinch the doubles point.

The Buccaneers started to make a comeback when the singles players took a 2-1 lead over the Bears, but Foulihoux tied the match when he clinched his 11th win of the season. After Branicki defeated his opponent at the sixth singles slot, MacLeod clinched the win with a big 6-4, 7-5 victory at the fifth singles slot.Â

SCOUTING ALABAMA STATE
Alabama State won its first SWAC championship since 2019 last season after going undefeated in conference play and sweeping both tournament opponents. The Hornets fell in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to No. 11 Georgia. ASU is currently 4-11 overall and 3-0 in the SWAC this season. Mercer has never lost to Alabama State, winning the past 10 matchups dating back to 2010.

Samrakshyak Bajracharya and Ruan Du Preez have remained steady at the first doubles slot and are 2-7 together so far this season with their only wins coming against Jackson State and North Alabama. Juan Rodriguez and Davis Jeanne Grandinot are 3-4 together at the second doubles slot while Matis Amier and Alexandre Verlaguet are 7-2 together this season at the third slot.Â

The Hornets' singles players have also remained relatively consistent in their slots. Kristofer Johnson stands at a 6-6 record this season, leading the team. Du Preez and Jeanne Grandinot have shared the duties at the first and second singles slots, posting a combined 11-14 record.
