Bears Battled Until Final Whistle Against No. 11 Jacksonville

MACON, Ga. – Mercer Men's Lacrosse team battled against No. 11 Jacksonville in a 18-15 game on Saturday, March 25. Ryan Danehy and the Bears move to 2-7 on the season and 1-2 in ASUN conference play. Jacksonville moves to 7-1 on the season and 2-0 in ASUN play.
11 different bears scored on the afternoon. Senior attackmen Parker Junod led the way for the Bears with four goals, Junior attackmen Taylor Dooley slotted in two goals. Senior Faceoff specialist Ashton Wood added a goal of his own and went 22-35 from the faceoff x. Senior midfielder Kyle Cox, Senior midfield Khory Reid, freshmen attackman Zach Basisty, and senior attackman Carl Klepper, freshmen midfielder Michael Frederick, sophomore midfielder Connor Panebianco, senior midfielder Matt O'Connor, senior attackman Jack Parolin each added a goal for the Bears.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Kyle Cox would open the scoring for the Bears in the first position of the game. The Dolphins would answer off the next faceoff. Ashton Wood would answer the Dolphins goal with a faceoff win and would score a goal for himself. The Dolphins would score two more goals until Taylor Dooley would find the back of the net off a Panebianco assist. Less than a minute later Connor Panebianco would find the back of the net off a sweeping dodge. Khory Reid would continue to the run for the Bears scoring off a Junod assist. The Dolphin would score three more times before the end of the first. The score after the first was 5-7 in favor of the Dolphins.
Michael Frederick would open the scoring for the Bears in the second. Frederick would score a man-up goal off the feed from Dooley. The Dolphins would score three more goals in the second quarter. The Bears would score three more goals before halftime. The first goal would come from Matt O'Connor off a dodge down the alley. The second would come from Zach Basisty, who was able to intercept an outlet pass from Jacksonville's goalie and score his first collegiate goal. The final goal would come from Jack Parolin who would score off the Junod assist. The score heading into halftime was 10-9 in favor of the Dolphins.
Dolphins would score first in the second half; however, Carl Klepper was there to answer and keep the Bears in the game. Klepper would find himself in front of the goal off the Frederick assist. The Dolphins would score again but the Bears were still fight. Junod would find his second on the afternoon off the assist from Frederick. The Dolphins would score three more goals until the Bears would find the back of the net. Dooley would score again off another Frederick assist. Junod would score off the assist from O'Connor. The score heading into the fourth was 13-15 in favor of the Dolphins.
Junod would score the Bears first goal of the fourth quarter and complete his hattrick with a 12-yard step down shot off the assist from Kyle Cox. Junod would tie the game at 15-15 off a deflected pass from the Jacksonville's goalie. The Dolphins would score three more making the final score 15-18.
