
Shorthanded Bears Fall to Troy

FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. – The Mercer men's tennis program (6-9) dropped its match against Troy (12-2) on Wednesday afternoon at a neutral site in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. The Bears were without Nemanja Stefanovic and Lucas Dini, who normally play in the top half of the lineup, due to injury.
Mercer took the doubles point to hold an early lead. Andrew Branicki/Samuel Barrow defeated Jules Fabre/Mario Martinez on court two for the first half of the point. Mariano Argote/Samuel MacLeod won on court one for their seventh doubles win of the season over Yeray Andres Pastor/Carles Anton to clinch the point. Howell Burns/Marceau Foulihoux were leading 5-4 on court three when the point was decided.
Burns made his first appearance of the season in both doubles and singles, but dropped his singles match on court six. Foulihoux won the other point for Mercer in the matchup with a three-set victory over Fabre on court three, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1. The sophomore earned his 10th singles victory of the year while playing in his highest singles slot of the season.
On court two, MacLeod claimed the first set 6-3 over Anton, but the Trojan edged MacLeod 7-5 in the second set. Troy clinched the match after Anton won the third set, 6-1.
UP NEXT: Mercer opens Southern Conference play on Thursday, March 16 at 3 p.m. at home against ETSU.
