Bears Split Furman Doubleheader

Greenville,SC.  – Bears took down number one SoCon opponent Furman today in a doubleheader matchup.Â
How It Happened
GAME ONE
    Rebeca Laudino started the offense off strong with a bunt to first and stole second. The Bears were caught in a double play to finish the top of the first with none left on. Mercer served a three up three down to retire the Paladins. Grace Prom was hit by a pitch to be the first out in the top of the second. Sophie Sumner doubled and both were brought home from a single to center field from Parris Wiggs. Grace Taylor recorded her first strikeout of the game to finish the second with Mercer on top, 2-0.
    Laudino recorded her second hit of the day with a single to left field, but was caught stealing. The Paladins left two stranded to end the third trailing, 0-2. A three up three down in the fourth for the Bears with the Paladins leaving two stranded again in the bottom. Sumner reach on a hit by pitch and was advanced by Wiggs and Alyssa Woods. She was left in scoring position. Mercer sat Furman down in order to finish the fifth still leading, 2-0.
    Bailey Ledvina walked to first and was quickly brought home due to a homer by Kylie Helm. The Paladins recorded one run on three hits finish the sixth still behind, 1-4. Sophie Sumner homered for the first time this season to further the Bears lead. Furman tried to make a come back with two in scoring position, but it fell short and Mercer took the first game, 5-1.
GAME TWO
    Tori Hedgecock singled to left center and was advanced by Ledvina. The two were left stranded. Furman got two on in the bottom of the first but were retired after a double play from Laudino, Avery Barton, and Ledvina. Prom singled to center to start the second. She was advanced with a SAC bunt from Sumner, but was left at second. Furman record the first run on the game on two hits to finish the second leading, 1-0.
    Nothing happened for either team in the third. Prom singled in the top of the fourth. Sumner reached on an error and would be advanced with a single from Wiggs. Prom was out at home with Sumner and Wiggs moved to scoring position. They were left stranded. Furman recorded a hit, but saw nothing on the board. The fifth brought nothing for either team and Furman kept is 1-0 lead.Â
    Sumner and Woods singled to get on. Emma Dorval pinch ran for Sumner. Both advanced on a wild pitch, but were left stranded. Mercer served a three up three down to finish the sixth. Barton singled to start the Bears in the top of the seventh. Three flied out retired the Bears with Palatins on top, 1-0.Â
