Bears Finish Final Home Series

MACON,Ga. – The Mercer Bears finished 1-3 in the series against UNC Greensboro this afternoon.Â
How It Happened
GAME ONE
    UNCG was on the board first and sat the Bears down in order in the bottom. Both teams had now hitters in the second, third, and fourth. In the bottom of the fifth, Avery Barton homered to tie it at 1-1. Katie Rearley dominated in the circle with two strikeouts and retired 13 in a row. The Spartans quickly retaliated in the top of the sixth with two run on three hits to take a 3-1 lead.Â
    Kassidy Moore was hit by pitch to start of the bottom of the sixth. She was caught on a fielders choice after an Alyssa Woods single. Woods was left stranded. Mercer held in the top with one left on base. Kylie Helm Walks and was joined by Grace Prom. Both came in on a double to left field from Morgan Hall to send the game into extra innings.
    Tied at 3, both teams were unable to get one in. In the top of the ninth, the Spartans got four runs on four hits to take a 7-3 lead. They served a three up three down to take it.
GAME TWO
    Mercer served a three up three down in the first, second, and third. Ledvina and Hedgecock picked up singles in the bottom of the first but were left stranded.Hall singled to left field and advanced on a wild pitch. She was left on to go into the third scoreless.Â
    Laudino walked and was advance by Ledvina. Hedgecock doubled to bring her home. Grace Taylor retired the first nine she faced in the circle. In the fourth, UNCG got one run on one hit. Sophie Sumner doubled, but was left on. The Spartans took a three point lead at the top of the 5th. Laudino doubled and was advanced by Ledvina. Helm walked with Parris Wiggs coming in to pitch run.
Hedgecock also walked to juice the bases. Barton singled to bring home Laudino. Prom hit a bomb and brought home Hedgecock to finish the fifth tied at three.
    Nothing happened for either team in the sixth. UNCG got three runs on three hits. Morgan Hall doubled in the bottom, but was left stranded. The Spartans took it with a final score of 7-4.

    The Bears will finish their regular season play at ETSU next weekend, May 6-7.Â
