
Bears Defeat Wofford

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's tennis program (10-7, 3-1) earned its third conference win of the season after defeating Wofford (10-10, 1-5), 5-2, on Tuesday afternoon. Teodora Ristic, Mary Weston Courville, Camilla Ciaccia, and Marina de Diego Quinones each went 2-0.
All three doubles pairs were victorious to claim the doubles point. Ristic and Courville took down Georgia Fischer and Lily Woods on court one, 6-2, while Eden Schlagenhauf and Ciaccia defeated Breda Brennan and Emma Sorensen 7-5 on court tow. The third doubles slot went to a tiebreak which de Diego Quinones and Kristin Yordanova won, 7-3, over Emely Kahrs and Brianna Wilbur.
Mercer opened singles play with a win by de Diego Quinones on court five 6-1, 6-3 against Kahrs. Wofford got one back with a win on court six. Ciaccia extended the lead by beating Fischer 6-3, 6-1 on court four.
For the clinching point, Courville defeated Brennan 6-4, 6-4 on court two. Defending Southern Conference Player of the Week, Ristic, earned a straight-set victory in singles over Woods, 6-3, 6-4 to notch the final point for the Bears. The Terriers won on court three to finalize the score at 5-2 in favor of Mercer.
UP NEXT: Mercer is on the road against ETSU on Thursday, April 6 before returning to the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center on Sunday, April 9 against Alabama State.
