Bears Fall to WCU in SoCon Championship Opener

CHATTANOOGA, TN. – The Bear would battle against Western Carolina University in the opening game of SoCon Softball Championship. The Catamounts would take the game 3-2 on Wednesday, May 10 at 10 a.m..
How It Happened
The Bears would start the game off at the plate. During the first inning, Mercer's Alyssa Woods would hit a single. Woods would be pushed to second off a single from Rebeca Laudino. However, Bailey Ledvina would groundout into a double play and Mercer's Woods and Ledvina would be kept on. Laudino would be left on following the next batter. The Catamounts would score two runs in the first inning.
In the second, Avery Barton would pick up a hit which was a single to leftfield, however she would ne left on. WCU would have a hit in the second. Mercer's Woods and Parris Wiggs would score two runs off a bunt from Ledvina. The Bears would tie the game heading into the middle of the third. The Catamounts would take a 3-2 lead at the end of the third. Nothing happened for either team in the fourth.
In the top of the fifth the bears had two runners in scoring position but could not get them home. The Catamounts had one hit in the bottom of the fifth. In the sixth, Tori Hedgecock would have a SAC bunt which would advance Kassidy Moore into scoring position. However, the bears couldn't get her home. The Catamounts were held scoreless in the bottom of the six. The Bears would have three pop flies which gave Western Carolina the victory by a score of 3-2 over the Bears.
